My Name Is Khan is an upcoming 2010 Indian drama based upon a true story. It is directed by Karan Johar, co-produced by Johar and Shahrukh Khan,has a screenplay by Shibani Bathija, and stars Khan and Kajol. The musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composed the film's score.Cinematography is by Ravi K. Chandran.
The film is slated for a February 2010 release.
Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan) is a Muslim man who suffers from Asperger syndrome (a form of autism which impacts social interaction abilities). Authorities detain him in post - 9/11 Los Angeles after mistaking his disability for "suspicious" behavior.
Journalist Madhureeta Mukherjee (referring to the post - 2008 Mumbai attacks atmosphere in India) stated in a December 2008 interview with Johar that, "My Name Is Khan starts at a time when Hindus and Muslims in India have united like never before
OVERVIEW OF THE MOVIE:MNIK
The film begins with the child, Rizwan Khan (Tanay Chheda), a Muslim who has Asperger syndrome, growing up with his mother (Zarina Wahab) in the Borivali section of Mumbai. Later as an adult (Shahrukh Khan),
Rizwan moves to San Francisco and lives with his brother and sister-in-law. While there, he falls in love with Mandira (Kajol). They eventually marry and begin a business.
After the events of 9/11, Rizwan and Mandira begin to face a number of difficulties. Following a tragedy, they separate. In order to win her back, Rizwan embarks on a long journey across the United States.
SETS AND LOCATIONS:
The sets of the upcoming movie is in My Name is Khan has been set up in Mumbai. Bandra based Mehboob Studios is the venue for the shooting where a huge set had been put up for My Name is Khans ongoing shooting. Art director Sharmistha Roy who has done most of Karan Johar’s films is the designer of this set.
The shoot shall begin once Shah Rukh recuperates from his shoulder surgery and shooting is stalled till then. Ths studio has been booked till April 17th and it is not still confirmed when it shall begin.
All the scenes that do not require Shah Rukh are being shot in Mumbai as King Khan is not required in these. He will resume work once he is better. Earlier the film has been shot in various cities of and also in USA and London
Pre-release publicity and tie up with FOX STAR:
On 7 August 2009, Karan Johar signed a deal for 1 billion INR with Fox Searchlight Pictures, who will market and distribute it in India (FOXSTAR) and worldwide (Fox Searchlight).
Shah Rukh Khan was later asked in a December 2009 interview if he feels that My Name Is Khan is "a more international film which should be seen by all and will have a far reaching influence."

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, two of Bollywood's biggest stars, are reuniting as lead actors in a film for the first time in seven years, its director said. The pair has starred in some of Bollywood's biggest hits such as ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'.
Their new film, called ‘My Name is Khan', is aiming for a 2009 release, director Karan Johar said. Johar declined to reveal the plot but some local newspapers say Khan will play a Muslim man and highlight the plight of the community following the attacks in the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001.

Kajol asks limited overseas shoots for My Name Is Khan:
Kajol has requested buddy Karan Johar to use her dates for the overseas shoot of My Name Is Khan for not more than 20 days at a stretch. The actress does not want to be away from home for long periods of time.
KJo's film starring Shah Rukh Khan will be shot extensively in the US. It is slated to start filming in mid-December in Los Angeles followed by another schedule in New York.
